The COAST (Coastal On-line Assessment and Synthesis
Tool) was created at NASA SSC as a prototype web based 3D Earth data browser
that accesses coastal resource management project results and
allows a user to combine them into a multi-layered and/or multi-temporal visual analytical
look into possible data interrelationships and co-effectors for coastal data phenomenology.
COAST was created from NASA’s geospatial OGC (Open Geospatial Consortium) compliant
open-source client browser, World Wind, created at NASA Ames Research Center.
COAST can be used to access many existing online datasets as well as import and map local
data through its various ingest and import tools and utilities. COAST's toolset is currently
being developed to allow greater access to a larger realm of the most commonly implemented
data formats used by the coastal science community. As additional data layers are identified
as useful by the community, COAST Layer files will be created and made available for download
and inclusion in the user's COAST Layer Manager as accessible data in COAST.
